A HUGE misconception among those that want to lose weight is that you need need to consume less calories, eat bland food, and do excessive amounts of cardio to achieve your goals.

This approach usually results in people losing weight immediately, only to hit a plateau within weeks. Ultimately, this ends with you feeling defeated, discouraged, and ready to give up. Even worse, highly restricted calories wreaks havoc on your metabolism, may actually cause you to gain weight, or it will make weight loss extremely challenging in the future.

See, what happens when you don’t eat enough calories to fuel your daily activities and workouts, your body goes into a serious starvation mode, your metabolism slows down, and your body may even begin to pack on pounds.

What you’re ultimately doing is lowering your metabolic rate, which means that your body is burning calories much SLOWER. This can also throw your thyroid hormones out of whack!

If your goal is to lose weight, but your body is not burning calories as efficiently as it could be, that means that you may not be seeing results!

That’s why it is critical for you to figure out how many calories you should be consuming for your goals.

Then, use a scale or portion estimates to ensure that you are meeting your Macros (Protein, Carbs, Fat) intake and also consuming enough Fiber!

No, it is not sustainable to calorie count for your whole life, but it is a good idea to know how much you should be eating.

After you have a general idea, you can simply eyeball portion sizes and you will figure out what works best for YOUR body!

Do not refer to MyFitnessPal.com to calculate your caloric needs. These are very inaccurate estimates, and they typically underestimate the amount of food you should be eating.

Keep it simple, stay balanced, and remember, you have to eat to lose weight.
